Firefighter I Pay: $48,130, with SC EMT license – $50,246
Qualifications:

Position Details:
- Nonexempt, hourly firefighter position reporting to a company captain
- Responsible for emergency response, station duties, training, preplans, incident documentation, community risk reduction, and ad hoc assignments
- 6-month probationary period
- Paid time and one half for overtime (extra shifts available)

- Once an application is submitted, applicants should wait to hear from the department. The applicant will be sent an acknowledgement that their application was received. Applicants should not contact the department regarding the status of their application. If an application is accepted, the applicant will be notified to report for the administration of the Physical Ability Test (PAT) and interview. Applicants will be given a minimum of two weeks to prepare for the test.
- Applicants are required to sign the Physical Agility Test Release form to participate in the PAT. An overview of the PAT is provided to assist in preparing for the test.
- Applicants who successfully complete PAT may be invited to a 1-hour panel interview. Applicants arriving late will be removed from further consideration.
- Applicants who successfully complete the interview will be considered candidates for employment.
- Applicants may progress through the testing and interview phases of the employment process individually or in groups. Applicants should be prepared for delays between phases if applicants are grouped. Applicants will be notified of their status after each phase.
- When a final candidate is chosen, a job offer will be extended to that candidate. If the candidate accepts the offer they will complete the last phase of the employment process – an NFPA 1582 compliant physical exam, a criminal background check, and a drug test. These will typically occur within one to two weeks of acceptance of a job offer.
- If a final candidate successfully completes the last phase of the employment process they will be notified, and a start date will be negotiated. They will be assigned to a shift and begin their probationary period on their start date.
- If a final candidate fails any portion of the last phase, another candidate may be chosen to complete the last phase of the employment process. If there are no additional candidates, the application period will remain open until a candidate completes the employment process.
