The Flint Hill Fire Department (FHFD) is a Combination Fire Department with full time paid, part time paid, and volunteer members.  Flint Hill Fire Department provides fire protection and rescue services for a suburban area of 21 square miles in Fort Mill, South Carolina, known as Flint Hill Fire District.  Fire protection is provided for approximately 20,000 residents and 750 businesses located in Flint Hill Fire District.  There are more than 50 subdivisions in the fire district including neighborhoods such as Bailiwyck, Carowoods, Beacon Knoll, Knights Bridge, Quail Ridge, Saddle Gate, Foxwood, Waterstone, and several Regent Park subdivisions.  Businesses in the fire district, include Carowinds Amusement Park, Regent Park (formerly Heritage USA), Black and Decker East Coast Distribution Center, Ross Clothing East Coast Distribution Center, INA Bearing Corporation, and Wells Fargo Financial.  Services provided by Flint Hill include fire, hazardous materials, search & rescue, high angle rescue, and others.  All EMS calls in our area are handled by Piedmont EMS and Fort Mill Rescue Squad.  Flint Hill responds to approximately 1000-1200 fire calls per year.  Our primary source of funding comes from a special tax district established for Flint Hill Fire District.  Other funding is provided by York County.

The Fire Chief is the executive officer of Flint Hill Fire District, responsible for day to day management as well as setting the long term goals for the fire department.  The Fire Chief is hired by the FHFD Tax District Board and reports directly to that board.  The Fire Chief’s compensation, benefits, work hours and responsibilities are determined by the FHFD Tax District Board.  All paid personnel, including shift supervisors, officers, and firefighters are managed by the Fire Chief of Flint Hill Fire Department.  All volunteer personnel, including elected officers, appointed positions, firefighters, and non- suppression personnel are managed by the Fire Chief of Flint Hill Fire Department.  The Fire Chief works closely with the Flint Hill Fire Department Tax District Board and the Flint Hill Fire Department volunteer Board of Directors to promote a strong and dedicated roster of paid and volunteer firefighters.  The Flint Hill Fire District Tax Board is appointed by the York County Council and they are governed by York County Ordinances.  The Flint Hill Fire Department volunteer Board of Directors are elected by the residents of Flint Hill Fire District.  Both Boards work in conjunction with each other for the betterment of Flint Hill Fire Department and for the protection afforded residents and businesses located within Flint Hill Fire District.
